18th Annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest
Saturday, September 30, 2017 | Noon - 7 PM (Taps close at 6 PM)
The Village at Shirlington
4 001 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, VA
Volunteers are needed for 2nd shift (2:30-6pm)!
This year's 18th Annual Mid-Atlantic OktoberFest sponsored by Capitol City Brewing Company will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from noon-7pm (taps shut off at 6pm) in the Village at Shirlington, Arlington, VA. Over 65 breweries will be present, along with a variety of food vendors and German music and entertainment.
Approximately 300 volunteers are needed to help pour beer; volunteers must be at least 21 years old. All positions are filled on a first-come, first-assigned basis via online volunteer registration. Each volunteer will get a tasting glass, 10 beer sample tickets, and a t-shirt (to be worn only while working during your shift). Each volunteer pourer will work a 3-1/2 hour shift pouring tasty malt beverages (Two shifts: 11:30am-3pm or 2:30-6pm). Volunteers for 2nd shift are encouraged to come at the start of the fest, sign in and enjoy the fest while the crowds are light before getting behind the taps to pour beer. If you can only work one of the 2 shifts, leave the 2nd shift preference selection blank.
GROUP SIGNUPS: Twosomes should just enter your friend/spouse/partners name and I'll assign you to the same team. If you are volunteering with a group of 3 or more, you are strongly encouraged to pick a Team name and enter it in the Comments/Group Name field so that it's easy to assign you. All members of the group should sign up online as soon as possible AND indicate the same shift as I cannot reserve spots for late additions. Keep in mind that it is always easier for me to find space for a large team on 2nd shift.
IMPORTANT: Please be aware that in response to concerns expressed by Arlington Police and Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (VABC) agents, team captains will be paying close attention and enforcing rules prohibiting volunteers drinking behind the taps. Doing so could cause your expulsion from the fest (and possibly lead to a citation or possible incarceration according to Cap City discussions with the police). They expect VABC agents will be circulating among the crowd; they can also shut down the taps if they see this. If you'd like to taste some beer during your assigned shift, please step out from behind the table and drink it in front of the tent.
You will be notified in mid-September with your shift/team assignment. Thanks and I hope to see you in September!
